Becoming your Higher Self...

My Journey : Meditation in the Home & Workplace : The Science behind Meditation.

Hi, I’m Dawn

I am a Level 3 Certified Meditation Teacher, trained and qualified through the British School of Meditation, earning a Distinction in my studies. You can find me on their website under their list of ‘Approved Meditation Teachers’

I specialise in the 'Science of Meditation' and how and why it works on the brain, in reducing stress and anxiety, building resilience and grief support. For individuals. couples, families, Schools & Colleges, the Corporate World and Healthcare Providers, in person On Line, via Teams, Zoom or Video Calls.

Different meditation techniques work on different parts of the brain, so it is not a 'one meditation' fits all. That is why BSoM Teachers are fully trained in various types of Meditations namely :

Breath, Mantra, Contemplation, Walking, Silent, Chanting, Zen, Buddhist, Mindfulness and Visualisation.  We are also encouraged to discover more Meditation types and practices and develop our own unique style. From complete Beginner onwards.

I hope you get a feel of the depth of the training all Meditation Teachers receive from the BSoM.

When I first started my Meditation practice, it took some time for me to find a Teacher that I felt an affinity with. Although each Teacher had something unique to offer, I was looking for a Meditation Teacher that I felt comfortable to talk to about what I was going through, my fears, and my sorrows.  Someone whom had experienced something similar to what I was going through.

Eventually, I found a Teacher who had similar life experiences and possessed the wisdom through these experiences. But each and every one I met on my journey, helped me, in their own unique way. and I will always be hugely indebted to them.

It is very important that you work with a correct and thoroughly trained Certified Meditation Teacher, as Meditation is very powerful. Having been used for thousands of years in many cultures, and still is today.

Teachers trained with the British School of Meditation need to have been meditating for quite some time before they can even enrol. They are required to keep a daily Meditation Journal during their training, that they must produce as part of their assignments. They are trained into what Meditations to use and what Meditations to not use for certain situations.  They must produce a Code of Ethics, DBS, Data Protection Policy, and possess full Insurance . They must be extremely knowledgeable in how to help their most vulnerable clients, and able to Signpost and follow up on them if necessary.

They must also cover a certain amount of CPD (Continued Professional Development) training every year, to ensure they remain up-to-date in their field. and further grow their knowledge and skills,

Summing up, we have all received the very best of training and ongoing support, and I am honoured to be part of this wonderful organisation.

Meditation is not a religion, so you can be a Christian, a Hindu, a Muslim, or Jewish and still practice Meditation alongside your faith. You do not need any faith at all, everyone is welcome. When you start a daily Meditation practice you will actually physically and mentally feel the profound benefits, if not immediately, very quickly.

My Life Journey so far, has seen me as a child whom experienced trauma, a Nurse (in ICU and Palliative Care) a Care Manager working with various Local Authorities with children and vulnerable adults, A Business Woman, a Natural Horsewoman, a Wife, Mother, Grandmother, bereaved Mother, and a Volunteer for 2 wonderful charities : the amazing  'Action for Happiness' and the equally amazing  'Little Havens Hospice' .

All this life experience and professional training has provided me, I believe, with the wisdom and grace to finally lead me to this point in my Life, which is helping people find Healing, Resilience and Calmness through Meditation. Providing support, and understanding to those needing help. Whether those challenges are balancing Stress and Anxiety in the Home or Workplace, caused by many reasons : poor work/life balance : workload : divorce : partnership break up : personal health : health of a loved one : loss : dealing with grief : difficult relationships : helping the Corporate World, NHS and Healthcare Provider's nurture a caring environment within the workplace, which in turn will increase focus, productivity and reduce lost workdays due to stress, anxiety and burnout and more.

My Meditation teachings will help you to find calmness, emotional balance and harness resiliency and more, throughout your Life.

It is my wish for you to eventually become your own Therapist, and to not need me long term, but I will always be here for you for as long as you need me.

My Journey as a Meditation Teacher  is in honour of my beautiful daughter Kerri Jayne Mason.

Please keep reading below to see how I can help you.

Meditation in the Home and Workplace.

Meditation can help you in all roles of your Life.

Whether you are a CEO, a Manager of a Healthcare Service, Manager of a Large Team, Fund Raiser for a Registered Charity, Volunteer, employee, employer, Mum, Dad, Carer, friend, family, loved one, whatever role/s you show up as in your Life, Meditation can help you become the ‘Best Version Of Yourself’.

Meditation can help you connect with Colleagues, family, loved ones and friends in a more effective, kind and authentic way.

Your family Life, and all your relationships, including your relationship with yourself will improve day by day. You will be able to listen more effectively to others and hear and understand the pressures of Life they may also be going through. They, in turn, will feel more heard and seen and more likely to open up to you. This will then enable you to find improved ways to communicate and navigate your personal Life in a much more understanding and kind viewpoint.

If you are responsible for a Work Force or Team, your Team will become more happier, motivated and productive. Less work days will be lost due to stress and anxiety. This ‘feel good factor’ will flow into every aspect of your business, even through to your clients, customers and service users.

If you are a care giver /parent /wife / husband /partner/ nan/grandad, however you are showing up in your Life, Meditation will help you connect, communicate and understand your loved ones, friends and family from a whole new level and viewpoint for them.

I deliver my Meditation Courses and Workshops In Person and On-Line (Live or Pre Recorded via Zoom or Teams, or for the Private Sector, via a Video Call( if you do not have access to Zoom)

Whether you are wishing to know more about how Meditation can help you in your Private or Work Life, or both, please do not hesitate to get in touch via the Contact Page.  This can be done via email, text or call. If I am busy please leave a message and I will get back to you very quickly.

Meditation for Grief Support.

Having been a Palliative Care Nurse and sadly a bereaved Mother, I know only to well, both sides of this very sensitive and fragile journey.  I am confident that I can offer loving, kind, authentic and professional support to you, to help you in whatever role you are in, on this journey called ‘Life’.

The Science of Meditation

If you are like me, you will want to know the proven science of why Meditation works before you dive in…

Meditation is not new, its been around for thousands of years, originating in the East. Meditation still plays a huge pivotal role in places of education and the home in the East.

In the West it is a different story, in the last decade we have uncovered the science and links Meditation offers between the Mind and Body. There is now so much Science being discovered daily, due to the high tech equipment being used, which can detect the changes in the structure of the brain, brainwaves and the effect on the whole body through Meditation.

Dr David Hamilton, a pioneeer in this field, has written many books on the mind, body connection backed  by current scientific research. Dr Hamilton attends many Seminars all over the World, teaching this. In Dr. Hamilton’s book ‘Why Woo Woo Works’ he quotes many scientific evidence based studies and I can highly recommend reading this Book.

Dr. Tara Swart, another prominent voice, pioneer and neuroscientist writes about break throughs in neuroscience that can actively change the way our brains work. Her book 'The Source' is a book I highly recommend reading.

Alzheimer’s Research UK  recommend a particular Meditation practice called ’Kirtan Kriya’ - Satanama. Scientific research shows that greater attention, concentration, focus, improved short term memory, reduced anxiety, even into older age is experienced using this Meditation Technique.

Other current pioneers in this field are Sadhguru, Dr. Bruce Lipton, Dr. Joe Dispenza and Gregg Braden to name just a few. There are so many I have not mentioned but you can do your own Research, these are just my favourites.

Today we have the luxury and benefit of amazing scientific equipment and apparatus to measure the changes in the brain structure, brainwaves and body.  Various brain scans, gene expressions, telomeres, hrv measurements, immune regulation, metabolic markers and more.  Apparatus such as EEG’s, PET scans, fMRI’s, RCBF’s and MEG’s are now used to measure, record and provide important, up-to-date clinical evidence in the field of neuroplasicity and physiological changes in the brain.

Certain Meditation techniques work on different parts of the brain to either strengthen or weaken these areas, for example :-

The Pre frontal Cortex (strengthens) This part of the brain is responsible for logical thinking, planning, cognitive functioning and positive emotion.

The Tempo-Parietal Junction (strengthens)  This part of the brain is responsible for empathy and compassion.

The Hippocampus (strengthens) This part of the brain is responsible for memory and emotional regulation.

The Amygdala (weakens) This part of the brain is responsible for the stress and fear response.

The Default Mode Network (weakens) This part of the brain is responsible for ‘mind chatter’

The Hypothalamus- (strengthens) This part of the brain is responsible for managing body temperature, blood pressure, hunger and thirst.

I hope the above helps you to understand a little on the ways different Meditation Techniques effect different parts of the brain and how Meditation can change our lives in a profound and positive way.

Love and Light and please keep reading below....
